I have a few active roleplays going on now, and all but one of them use the same character. The one that uses the different character is longer, more thought out, and of a clearly different feel than the others, which are of a faster pace. I was typing in the long one as this particular character, then got a notification that one of the faster ones had replied. I opened a tab and went there, replied to that under the different character. I switched back over tot he long one and continued writing my reply, checking my character profile at the top and it still saying I was under the proper character for this roleplay. I finished and went to post it IC and it said "Cannot post with a character that isn't allowed to post in this roleplay." I lost all that I wrote all because my "active character" was changed in another tab and wasn't allowed in that roleplay. I'm wondering if perhaps it would be possible for the site to know that: the active character isn't a part of the roleplay, but another character of this account is, and thus post as the appropriate character. Granted, if you're roleplaying two profile at once it wouldn't be able to be automatic, but that is neither here nor there.
TLDR: Posting with an active character that isn't part of the roleplay automatically posts as your character that is a part of that roleplay, provided you have a character in said roleplay.

There's a couple of cases where this runs into a problem:
If you have two characters in that roleplay, how should the system decide who you post as?
If the character you switched to was also in the roleplay, you'll still have undesirable results.
The best solution might be one of these two:
The character you appear to be active as on that page IS the character you're active as, regardless of later character changes in other tabs. (Could extend into something decently supportive of having multiple active characters.)
When you make your post, the system says something to the effect of:
you've switched characters since making this post / entering this page. You're currently active on (name). Who did you mean to post this as?
(Icons/names to choose from as in the character switcher.)
I thought that it used to let you open different characters in an incognito window and post as that character there. Recently, even if all Lit windows are unique Incognito sessions, whichever character you switch to in one window will become your current character in the other window as soon as you do a refresh. Perhaps that is the way it always worked, and only my increased use has exposed this to me. But it would be nice to be in a live RP on one character, and responding to a disconnected RP on another, seamlessly, one way or another.
It's quite comfortable. This suggestion isn't technically implemented, but the use case is covered in a way solves some of the problems identified in the comments.
You can no longer encounter this error, because you can no longer join a roleplay as a character without permission to post there. (If somehow there's a way to do that, that's a bug. Please report it!)
