Feedback ยท Closed feedback doesn't behave consistently with implemented feedback (solved)

(Title updated to not be misleading about the current state of affairs. This feedback was based on a misunderstanding of what bug is truly going on, and that's explored more in comments.)

I endorsed a suggestion recently that got closed. It still shows up in my list of stuff endorsed with some of my endorsement points on it, and some of you may be in a similar situation if you review that link.

That feedback is locked, so I can't remove those points, and they weren't refunded when it closed.

Probably closed feedback should refund all endorsement points on it. I don't know how to dig up a list of closed feedback here (they don't show up in the resolved list) so I don't know what total impact this is having.

WA, you should probably check if this affects deleted feedback too, or if there's other endorsement point black holes.

Closed already does this. Maybe you intend to file a bug report?

Velus

Then I guess it's just me! How should I file a bug report to get my points back?

Roel

Is just about the fact that when making a feedback you should use "something broken" with bugs. They have different stages of being handled than "something new" which implies new function.

Velus

I

Velus

Er, wow. Hit the wrong spot in my screen. Anyway: I did use "something broken". I'm just imagining that for something that's usually secret, there's a private avenue of bug reporting. I'm fine with saying what I endorsed (it was scent play) but I don't imagine that people having to announce this usually secret stuff to the entire site to get action taken should be the standard route.

Wrecked Avent Site Administrator

Yes, velus did file this as "something broken", and no, there's no mysticism past that. Doing the "something broken" just records some additional information like user agent to make debugging a bit easier and can be linked to logged site errors (which is also quite useful).

Still, I'll have to poke around with this. Would be kind of bad if closing didn't refund points.

Velus

I've how gone through my endorsements on my phone and added up the points: unless I miscalculated, they added up to 105.

Maybe I got my 5 points refunded, but also the original 5 are staying put on the closed feedback?

Wrecked Avent Site Administrator

Everyone gets an equal 100 points, but I guess some people are more equal than others!

"refunded" feedback does not subtract from the original endorsement value. This lets me keep track of how much endorsements things were at when I "resolved" them.

Velus

Hrm, that's true. So I guess the oddity is that a closed suggestion still shows up in my endorsements list, whereas implemented suggestions do not.

Wrecked Avent Site Administrator

Yeah, that's not right. I'll look into that.

Iktomi

just adding this as my own experience with this bug.

Wrecked Avent Site Administrator

Okay, after playing with it a bit, there's like 8 very subtle bugs in the endorsement re-add that can accumulate into this issue. Will fix as this is kind of important.

Wrecked Avent Site Administrator

This is a complicated issue that has a lot of causes but I'm now testing how effective this fix is. It will not retroactively fix issues but will self-correct the points you have towards 100.

Wrecked Avent Site Administrator

Confirmed with several people that this will be self-corrected as you use endorsements and get them back.
