A recent suggestion got me thinking about our mating cycle (litphoria.com) trait: do we actually need this thing? Is it important, do people actually care and search by it? The original suggestion for it (closed as a duplicate of what really got implemented) doesn't offer anything to explain.
It's got four options: none (you don't mate), or menstrual/estrous/opportunitistic suggesting your mating pattern. But thinking about it, is that actually important to know? For people into impregnation, the actual important detail is whether you're into one of our pregnancy interests, not whether you have a mating cycle. And is the mating cycle important enough to actually define in a trait?
It's also a bit redundant given a character's genitals: penis = usually opportunitistic, vagina = usually menstral or estrous, none = no mating cycle. Or if you have genitals anyway but don't want to concern yourself with the whole mating thing, you just put pregnancy in No.
I understand estrous is something some people are into, though that comes across to me as an interest or a theme kinda thing.
So do we actually need this trait? Is it important to you, do you use it? I feel as though it's not worthwhile and probably worth removing - does it have value or should it get removed? What are your thoughts about it?
