Kill la Kill is based in ww2/modern japan which is controlled by the local high schools, who vie for power with each other through matches with their various sports teams and clubs. Fabric technology has progressed so far that guns have become mostly a thing of the past. Thread, and Apparel are constant motifs throughout the series as most of the schools use 'life fiber' technology to enhance their student athletes for combat against their opposing schools. A group of anti-fiber tech rebels, aptly named 'Nudist beach', fights against the advancement and proliferation of the 'life-fiber' technology.
