I have reason to believe that using the password reset function will send you a password reset url and a follow-up 'your password was successfully reset' email as intended, but your password doesn't actually change.
I had forgotten my password trying to log in on a mobile device, so I decided to just reset the password. Did it once 'successfully', but still didn't get the password right. Tried it two more times to no avail. Tried it on my work desktop in case the mobile device was treating special characters differently (I may be a bad person), still didn't work. Made another attempt with a plain password, still did not work.
Thought maybe the site might have locked me out for fumbling with the password system so many times, but I threw caution out the window and started attempting to figure out what password I came up with at 1AM last night, just a teensy bit drunk. Eventually was able to figure it out and log in - it wasn't any of the passwords I had tried to change it to today, so it definitely had not changed from last night.
