related to Redesign PMs into a kind of Roleplay

Edit from a comment:

Tyne suggest elsewhere that a PM could just be a role play, period. Just defaulted to OOC.
I would ad that it could have an internal flag of PM, so that it renders differently and shows up in different lists (your PMs and not your RPs).
Then the sender would be able to 'convert' it to an RP by clicking a button on it.
This would set the PM flag to false and it would then be an RP that is rendered with the RP GUI, and permit renaming, adding Setting text, adding Interests, etc.

Previously:

Changing the message system from the semi-clunky style we have now to one that is an implicit chat of sorts, where you can clearly see who sent it and to which of your characters it was sent too. It would only be usable in a chat-style, to encourage the use of the proper roleplay area, but would facilitate communications between characters.

I fully support this idea and will offer my endorsement when the time comes around to do that.

This is a "live updating inbox" suggestion? Or a "move private roleplay chats to inbox" suggestion?

Kain Layonnen

This is a live-updating inbox, which would act as a private chat room between the original sender and the intended character, or at least say which two characters are involved, which would solve the "Which character did they send this message to?" syndrome

"live updating inbox" problem is miles apart from the "which character did they send this message to" problem

Not going to knock any suggestion for improvement to the message system, but the site already has 'chats', so what seems would work best is simply adding a way to very quickly get into a private chat, which is really (or could be quickly converted to) a regular RP. In other words, with one click and some form-filling, end up at the same place as manually creating an RP and hitting the invite button and typing in the character's name. Thus on the message view itself, and possibly on profiles, or at least in the display of online friends, add a button for opening up this kind of instant chat.

This then makes the suggestion quite similar to facilitate invitation into an instant chat, only a bit more extreme. (perhaps a step after this other suggestion?)

If this were done though, it would let me drastically simplify the code for notifications and just collapse everything into roleplays. All hail roleplays.
