Feedback ยท Connect to read-only roleplays for live updates (implemented)

Currently, if there are other people running a public roleplay that you cannot post to, you have to refresh the page manually if you want to follow along. Could connections for viewers be possible?

Sounds like an interesting concept. Though some people may not wish their role plays to be viewed, so it would have to include a 'private/public' option for locking viewers out or allowing them to connect.

Might make some people squicky... Would like to hear some opinion regarding this.

The way I see it - roleplays already can be set to viewable without invitation, which is more or less equivalent of making it public, yes?
So, if we made people able to have it live updating, but make them not appear connected (contrary to people who are involved and connected, which are listed near the top) we would give them easier time reading ongoing plays without making players be like "Omg, somebody is reading us, this stress!"
On the side note, I fail to see why person setting RP as public while it plays would be bothered by being read in real-time.

By default, this is how connecting to a play works:

  • A client tells the server they are watching roleplay #1
  • A server tells the client who is "involved" with #1, gives typing statuses, registers them for any future updates
  • A person is only "involved" in roleplay #1 if they make a post or are part of the post order to roleplay #1
  • Typing notifications are given regardless of the user is "involved"

So, if it was just enabled that people watched plays that they cannot post to, they would always be "invisible" to those who are actually playing. This is how chat rooms work as well, there is usually some number of people connected who have not yet posted and thus are "invisible".

I'm not hearing any objections to this at all so I'm unblocking this.

Are all roleplays & chats live now, even when it's asking you to select a character for the roleplay? If so, I think this one's implemented. I don't see any active public roleplays to test it with right now though.

Yeah, this is implemented.

Got something to say? Why don't you register and participate?
