Right now, the saving only kicks in when you write a ., so pretty much end the sentence.
I would like it to do the same after ? and ! (other signs that can viably end sentence) and " (this one is more or less convenience measure, so that you don't have to remember to put " again after post is loaded; because it saves after . when you write speech, and " put right after it disappears).

I believe it saves on ! and .. I don't mind it checking for more, I just didn't want it to save every single character (wasting a lot of cycles in the process).
Oh it does after!? Must have slipped me. I am sure it doesn't do it after ? which confused me a few times. Overall what I suggested was aimed to cover possibly every case of naturally and properly finished sentence, even if it is direct speech.
