Categories would be as follows:

  • Absolute - character who, once pledged loyalty, won't turn his back onto person or idea, no matter how wrong or misguided it turns out to be
  • Pragmatic - character with strong sense of loyalty, yet not afraid to turn away from what turns out to be wrong or unrealistic
  • Self-serving - character loyal only to itself, using pledges of loyalty for temporary gains and treating betrayal as natural consequence of pledge outliving its usefulness
