Feedback ยท Make Interest editing more concise (implemented)

Right now on reasonable viewport (15,6" with 1366x768 resolution) one can see maybe 4 Interests from editing panel - and there will be more once more than just Giving/Taking dropdown is there. I actually heard people decide not to use the site because that was feeling too 'clunky' and bad - which we obviously don't want to happen.

So, the idea is like this - make list of interests display just the names of them, with x and move buttons on the left, and a new button on the right. This new button would 'collapse' Context box and Give/Take (plus any subsequently added) dropdowns - they would of course be collapsed by default. This way everything seems much more clean, easier to navigate and partially mitigates the issue of having to scroll all the way to the top just so you can move interest between columns.
Makes editing less of a chore too because of giving easier overview on what is where and what you could possibly want to move (currently I tend to have my profile open in another tab for such overview, which feels bad and messy).

I suggest that if we have an expand/collapse thing for each interest, then expanding the interest should immediately place keyboard focus on its description field.

With profile comparisons I was going to put all of the "additional" stuff in a collapser.

I also had ideas about splitting up the "specific" parts and the "general" parts of profile editing. Like there would be one tab which is good at adding, removing, and moving stuff really quickly, then another tab where you cannot add/remove/move, but can fill in the finer details. This would reduce the "complexity" and "clunkiness" but potentially introduce more work if people don't edit their profile like I would (broad strokes, then dote in the details).

I like the sound of that last suggestion a lot, it sounds like it would work quite well :) But yeah, something definitely has to be done in relation to things being more concise and less "spread-out". You might consider making margins narrower, in general, not just when it comes to interest editing, so that more things fit on the screen.

Which idea, Mellan?

Mellan

The one you had, about splitting the "specific" and "general" parts for detailed vs. quick editing.

I forgot about this, but this has been implemented since a few profile updates ago. Now both traits and interests must be expanded to edit their details.
