Switch the "post-as" profile to the profile to which a PM is using when opening it from the Inbox (accepted)
When jumping to a PM from any Inbox or the PM List page, switch the post-as profile to the one involved in the PM.
This may necessitate, currently, that the global active profile be switched. If so, it might be that this should be a configurable option due to the possibility that people would prefer that that switch never happen automatically. Ideally, this switch would only be for that tab, or it would open up in a new tab and that tab would be switched to the correct PM-involved profile. That itself might involve a tab-centric profile system, rather than a global-active-profile system.
This is relatively minor, but it is a nuisance if not noticing you are on the wrong profile, you must dismiss the pop-up, make the profile switch, and if you don't copy your post text, you will lose it when the profile switch occurs. (Only loses text not left of any terminating punctuation. A text save happens at those points, so a nuisance due to severity and rarity.)

It would be nice if this was generic across the site, not just opening a PM. If a tab can retain the profile that it was opened with, then why can't a tab be freely set at any time to a given profile without altering the account's active profile.
In fact, for anti-stalking, it would be nice that only the active profile is tracked in the "recently online" features of the site (except maybe for friend to friend)
So, the header would permit changing the active profile, but when on a tab with a text box, the profile selector at the bottom just changes that tab's working profile.
If auto-setting of a tab's profile becomes implemented, it would be nice if it just set that tab's working profile, and not your account's active profile. So when an RP or PM opens in a new tab, a working profile for that tab is selected based on the profile being used in the PM or RP. The cases when an RP has multiple profiles active in it from your account, then selecting a different profile down at the bottom would just set that tab to a new working profile, and not change your account's active profile.
I've been thinking about the interface around this: how can we communicate what character you're using for this specific tab (by enforcement of them being the one in the PM/chat/roleplay), without doing something to suggest the whole-of-site profile's been changed? I thought of this thing and mocked it up. That's if I happen to be active as Princess Bubblegum at the time (the one behind), but open a PM as Samus. So it shows "there's still something there, but this one's being activated instead for now" visually.
Oh, I would love it dearly if a chosen global character never changed until you specified that, but a tab could be any chosen profile, and the one wouldn't trample the other. For now, I have just had multiple tabs open, and as long as that tab doesn't refresh (which DOES happen when a new page is added to an RP), then the profiles don't swap around under you in an undesirable fashion. Of course, I haven't used the site for months, but that's my 2 centavos. And of course, all of this is the reasoning for why built-in chat tabs are actually necessary.
Tabs now retain not the profile that they were opened with, but the last profile you selected. This along with forcing you to initially choose a profile I think alleviates the concern of suddenly posting as someone you might not realize you are (per samus' point) while also keeping it convenient for all future communications with them.
The last profile you selected in that tab, that is.
