Delete 'Temperament' (implemented)
Due to latest developments about atomic traits and the like, I am suggesting complete deletion of the trait Temperament
.
We had voices that current one (probably even with added categories) is not too useful, while newer version wouldn't fit atomic approach.

That suggestion doesn't make too much sense to me...but then again I'm wrong... Wait. Are you trying to build an atomic bomb out of Litphoria or something? O.o
Not seeing too many objections here, so I'm unblocking.
There was discussion about implementing this as one of the accepted uses of Temperament...
- sanguine: one who tends toward being extroverted, lively, sociable, carefree, talkative, and pleasure-seeking, impulsive, warm-hearted and optimistic. They may befriend easily, be imaginative, artistic, have many ideas, can be flighty and changeable, may struggle with following tasks all the way through and be chronically late or forgetful, with a high need to include and be close to others, and may switch between control and dependency. Driven by the need for attention, using charm, and quick-acceptance to avoid rejection by others.
- phlegmatic: one who is of a neutral temperament, ambiverted, thoughtful, reasonable, calm, patient, caring, and tolerant. They tend to have a rich inner life, seek a quiet, peaceful atmosphere, and be content with themselves, and lack motivation, tending to be steadfast, consistent in their habits, and thus have steady and faithful friends.
- choleric: one who tends to be egocentric and extroverted, task-oriented, focused on getting a job done efficiently, and may be excitable, impulsive, restless, with reserves of aggression, energy, and/or passion, and tries to instill that in others, showing leadership, practicality, ambition, strong will, assertiveness, need to control and include others, while being unresponsive to others, and appreciates receiving respect and esteem for their work. Low tolerance for being controlled. Motivated by their goals, in which other people are tools to be used.
- melancholic: one who tends to be an introverted loner, may appear serious, cautious or even suspicious and non-sociable, and can become preoccupied with the tragedy and cruelty and are susceptible to depression and moodiness. May be focused, conscientious, and often prefer to do things alone to meet their own standards, and exhibits a low need to control or to include others, with low tolerance of control or inclusion by others. May be motivated by fear of rejection and/or the unknown, and have low self-esteem, tending to reject others first.
- supine: one who tends to be inward and private, have lower self-esteem and be needy for acceptance or control from people, yet is less able to initiate and express this need to them, driven to try to gain acceptance by liking and serving others.
I'm just throwing this out for discussion. Hash away.
True, if the elements of temperament are all included in other Traits, then there is no need for it, really.
Wikipedia also speaks to Motivation. Perhaps that should be a Trait? That would help cover "pleasure-seeking", "goal-oriented", "Unmotivated," "Ego-centric", "Serving others", etc.
I think Motivation
would ultimately be too broad and having so many possible categories it would no longer matter. Especially, wouldn't help with searching.
Uh, most all of these things don't help with searching, really. I'm never going to search on self-esteem or empathy. Who would? They just help paint a picture of the character, so they are useful in that sense, as is Motivation
If they are not any useful for searching they are rather likely to get dumped once it is proven they are there only to be filled out.
Personality traits are tried to be made in a way that lets the story-focused people to have easier time finding somebody compatible with their idea.
I could definitely see someone looking for very confident or extremely un-confident characters. I could also see someone looking for a sadist through the empathy, or trying to find a caring figure (such as a surrogate mother). I am less certain about someone trying to find someone by how self-motivated they are.
I agree with the cute deer here. Besides, more profond aspects of personality can be put out into the description, you just need to have... key elements of personality into the traits system. Like... Submissive, Possessive, Dominant... and then when you find keys that match what you like, you can read a bit further down to find out if there's something to like in it.
Then several personality related items are on the chopping block. I disagree with that though. Traits can illuminate the character without being something that people search on.
Okay, I will be blunt. People have issues with litphoria's profile creation as being tedious and long. If we start putting stuff that is not there for the sake of usefulness but to make them even more scared, then we are in a big trouble. A trait should be something that is cared about by reasonable amount of people as far as considering it in a partner and using in searches go. Anything else is no mandatory and people can write it in if they care without having others get the impression it is any mandatory.
If you think any other trait is good for shooting off, making feedback and having discussion about that one is a way to go - after all, revaluation of things that went through system is just as important as introducing them.
Yes, so why put all the personality stuff on there in the first place, exactly?
Because some people stated those would be of use for them when searching for specific types for specific types of story.
Or, to be blunt - because some people want something else than just fuck so they might as well have something personality-related out there.
Perhaps we could discus over a possibility of having a new grand category... We have Traits, we have Preference, and we could have Personality as a whole new category. That way, things can be put more separated between what you like, and what is you. If you see what I possibly am trying to say here...
But I'm not the one wanting to delete stuff. And I disagree that Motivation isn't important.
Got something to say?
