Argument for this specie is simple and was discussed yesterday in chat - while there are numerous pokemon that can be assigned to existing species, a plethora of them is too bizarre to ever get something even remotely close to what they are. Examples include: living pokeballs, magnets, mud, home utilities, ice-cream cones and some other ungodly things (Koffing, anyone?) so in my eyes, it seems justified to have it.
Additional note - no, this does not make Pokemon canon any less usable.

Note that the little accent over the e will make this much more difficult to search for, as find pokemon profiles will not work, it would have to be done as find pokémon profiles

We're not interested in every single iteration of an animal. We're interested in groups which are of most use to people (e.g canine over wolf, dog, and fox). Similarly, pokemon has a lot of use because pokemon are not necessarily animals. Some of them do not even appear to be animate objects (like rocks or ice cream).
