HTML elements (sup, sub, s, b, i, em, strong) work in post previews, but not in messages (solved)
The
,
and <s>
elements are useful to me periodically, so I've run into a bug a few times: those elements work in post previews, but not in actual messages, like so. That leaves me writing a chat message and feedback comment once in a while, and after I send it, I get reminded they don't actually work.
Other formatting tags like <b>bold</b> and <em>emphasis</em> are in the same bucket, but we at least have markdown versions of those.
Could these elements get sorted out so that they either work in posts or don't work in previews, so that the preview actually aligns with what I'll see?
(Personally, I'd prefer , and <s> to work, since I actually use those!)

I'm not sure about the super- and sub-script stuff, but the other font formatters do work, just markdown is used, rather than html. Italics is represented by two asterisks (*) for instance. Click the question mark on the top of the site, then click on "What is markdown?" Or, alternatively, just go straight there: What is markdown?
I know how markdown works, you missed the very last sentence - I'm just suggesting the preview is not accurate, because it pretends that all this HTML markup works.
Sub and sup don't have markdown equivalents AFAIK, and if there is an <s> equivalent I don't know what it is here
That's what I get for trying to be helpful after midnight my time, don't read everything!
Sorry about that. As for the preview showing that they work, that should be fixed, or auto-converted perhaps.
I apologise myself actually, that did come off kinda snappy - I appreciate you offering the help, and it's pretty reasonable to miss the very last bit while I'm also going on about formatting we have better options for.
I'm going to edit this a bit to go on less about those ones. Your comment reminded me so thanks ;)
The fix I had in there that prevents the (limited) html is just a hot fix to prevent people from abusing it by not properly closing their tags (it causes the site display yo freak out). I agree there should be parity between the preview and the result though, and there was for so long.
I'm curious, is that also the thing making <_< break in messages, such as above?
I am glad to know this is not just broken but a temporary fix for something!
Yes, that is also what is causing that.
Got something to say?
