So, the main problem here is I already ask users to associate a canon with their profile. It feels a little weird to have people define their profiles with a canon like "fantasy - other" though, and makes it more awkward to search.
Something that can be done about this is to create a trait for setting. That would relegate canon to only specific universes whereas setting would define the general kind of category of that canon. For instance, a character in Tolkien's Hobbit universe would have a 'fantasy' category for their setting trait.
But this still feels like it might be replicating some information and asking people to fill stuff out twice. Thoughts?
I agree it would be asking for people to fill out things twice, say I had 3 versions of Krinvar (which I do) Fantasy, Modern, and Sci-fi. I would have to make a new Krinvar for each one! thats a little redundant. This is something I also brought up with Slimcat. Could you also add possibly Tribal , and maybe School to that scene list? I don't know how this is going to work it might have to have a new area implemented to just it. Like traits, interests, scenes. because the issue being if its a trait you can only place one, meaning redundant characters (I assume people would make more just for it). Would it work as an Interest?

The main problem with it being an interest is just that - it is only an interest. You can no longer specify what setting your character belongs to if it is an interest, thus, lose the capacity to search for characters in that setting, which seems unacceptable.
To some extent I agree about having to fill out multiple characters to fit multiple settings, but the other hand I don't think a character generic enough to fit easily in all of those settings is particularly tailored to any of them, and would just be better off with a "varies" or "unspecified" setting.
I do agree, but i assume people will end up making multiple versions of the same character at that point.

I think for now I will just have a setting trait with categories for these. It is not exactly a bad thing to have profile pages tailored to specific settings, assuming that is the route people take.
Got something to say?
