Combine the two roleplay viewership permissions into one setting (accepted)
In our roleplay creation settings, we currently have two options that are kinda confusing:
☐ set as chat channel
☐ allow anyone to view this roleplay without an invitation
☐ allow anyone to post in this roleplay without an invitation
☐ mark this roleplay as being sexual
☐ disallow guests from viewing the roleplay
(in case the unicode fails, those are just squares - checkboxes.)
These set viewership permissions, but they're on opposite sides of the settings, have opposite behaviour (check to allow, vs check to disallow), and require us to untangle "wait, what if I leave this one unchecked, but this one checked?" for each of the combinations. Instead, please combine these into one setting with some radio buttons to act as a sliding scale of viewership permission:
☐ set as chat channel
☐ allow anyone to post in this roleplay without an invitation
☐ mark this roleplay as being sexual
This roleplay can be viewed by: ◯ only invited characters / ◯ every Litphoria character / ◯ everyone (including unregistered visitors)
(and in case the unicode fails again, those other symbols are circles - radio buttons.)

I don't disagree with the radios as a presentation choice, I'd actually argue they're appropriate for a lot more of the settings for a simple reason that they make the unchecked state more evident. For example, what does it mean to leave set as chat channel
unchecked? Set as not chat channel? What does that mean? It actually means to set it as standard roleplay
but this terminology isn't described on the page or mentioned, just something you'd have to know. So really, we'd have something like:
☐ mark this roleplay as being sexual
This roleplay is:
◯ a standard roleplay, which retains posts indefinitely, paginating older posts
◯ a chat, which loses older posts to keep the display fresh, without pagination
This roleplay can be used by:
◯ everyone publicly, without an invitation
◯ just users only I invite to the roleplay
◯ just users anyone in the roleplay invites to the roleplay
This roleplay can be viewed by:
◯ everyone publicly, including users who are not signed-in. without an invitation
◯ everyone publicly, without an invitation
◯ just users invited to the play
(though these could also be dropdown boxes)
I agree with turning the chat switch into radio buttons like that, that is a good decision.
For "this roleplay can be used by", I'd reoder the options to go from most -> least private, which mean swapping those last two around:
◯ everyone publicly, without an invitation
◯ just users anyone in the roleplay invites to the roleplay
◯ just users only I invite to the roleplay
Got something to say?
