Make the area for editing my profile description bigger (implemented)
The area for editing my description in my profile is only about 2 lines tall. My description is more than that and I'm going to make it a bit longer yet, so I have to drag it bigger each time or write in another editor. Please make it bigger to begin with?

Or have it scale automatically with the input if that is possible.
I think auto scaling is probably a good idea. A larger area just takes up extra space for those that only want to write a little bit. But if it auto scales then it will be the best of both worlds and be better for everyone. At least that's what I think.
This, please. Even just 150% size different would be great, though scaling would be even better.
Both, of course, would be best. lol
Our text boxes go up to about 18ish lines... since the description, if used, is almost always going to be a few lines, it could start at around 8 lines high.
The other aspect of it being so small and needing to be dragged out bigger is that it is so close to the bottom that you have to drag and drag and drag, five or six times, to get it to a decent editing size. I think making it that size to start with would just be a lot friendlier to use. I mean something like 16 to 20 lines.
The box we use to add our comments in this section is bigger than the description editing box, AND it automatically scales, unlike the description box. I checked both things. Why would a box that's only used for a couple sentences at most be, by default, larger than a box where our entire description of our characters goes, and then become even larger if, by some off chance, it exceeds the norm by 1-2 lines? Meanwhile, our descriptions break that 2-line limit almost every single time it's used, almost as if we're just meant to copy-paste the concept at the top. I checked all of the other profiles here. Except for one, which is given a pass due to being a WIP, each profile has more than two lines of text in its description. I hope this is cleared for endorsement soon, I want to throw all 100 of my endorsement points at this.
As for the reason 'why,' it is the fact that this is basically a beta-phase and things like auto-sizing boxes are very new, and not all sections of the site have gotten all the features that other sections have, yet... Or at least, that is what I think the dev would say.
Yes, was not a conscious design choice, just the auto-expanding was an experiment I used on chat input boxes to see how feasible it would be and if it had any unintended side-effects. Things which use the same code to render (like the feedback input box) inherited this behavior, but very different ones just have to have it applied manually.
I have put a very simple change to this on the testing server. The box is now much larger than it was before, but doesn't auto-expand. I am still considering if that is an appropriate field to auto-expand like that, since it works on chat boxes by assuming the content will be small, and maybe larger. The profile description meanwhile should probably be pretty large, at least a paragraph or so, so it should always be pretty big.
Got something to say?
