Feedback ยท Remove or rework Likes and Dislikes in character creation. (solved)

Right now, when you're on the character creation page, it shows name, summary, traits, likes, and dislikes. However, once you go to edit your new character, there are five places for interests to end up. Placing interests can be a daunting task, and for users who are new to the site, it can be discouraging to finish the character creation page, only to find out there were other places the interests could have gone after the fact.

Solutions to this might be a note above the likes and dislikes section stating that those other three sections exist, removal of likes and dislikes from that single page with a note that they can be added in edit mode, or perhaps using the edit mode version of interest assignment.

Yes, there is a note already about filling in nuances of picks, but that does not say there are mandatory, core, or will try sections later.

It's mostly about making profile creation easier and less intimidating. Seeing the full complexity of the systems (like trait preferences) could easily make it too overwhelming for new people.

Not married to this though, I just don't want the first experience they have to the site to be 'wow this is complicated' - and it's already kinda complicated enough with all of the choices there are already

More pages during profile creation could work, particularly if it had a progress bar.

Maybe do it in phases:

  1. What do you like and dislike? (Sets yes/no)
  2. Of the stuff you like, what is the stuff that is most important to you and defines your character's interests? This may be just one or two things, or it could be a lot. (Displays things from Yes, selected stuff goes into Core.)
  3. Of the stuff you like, is anything absolutely mandatory for every roleplay? (Displays things from yes/core, moves into mandatory)
  4. Is there anything you're interested in and will try but inexperienced in? (Displays unselected stuff, selected stuff goes into will try)

We'll take a look at how we can approach this when we revisit the profile creator.

Desdemona Fireheart

Instead of sorting interests only into yes or no to make it easier, it would make more sense to offer a reduced list of interest, which contains only main interests. Stuff like "vehicular combat" wouldn't appear. "Sigilism"? o_O

Might become a really big list in the end.

Lich Community Manager

I agree that a much-reduced set of interests at first would be quite useful - we have a relatively stable interest list, and we could manually curate some of them for the purpose of character creation, or pick the top X number or X percent of the interests found in Core or Mandatory, or so on.

Wrecked Avent Site Administrator

This has been obsoleted by the new creator. When/if the new creator gets interests, it will allow selection of all 5 lists.
