Add a word-counter to text input. (accepted)
I'd like to see how many words my post has without having to copy and paste into a different word processor, similar to how slimcat can count characters. Even better would be if I could set goals and benchmarks. Say, at 200 words, the wordcounter turns green, and at 500 words, it goes red.

This would have to be handled VERY CAREFULLY or could end up making it seem like only longer posts are "legitimate" by the site
While I can get behind word-counter (which would synergize with Post length
if it got changed to that metric) any sort of "signalizing" seems... no? It is informational stuff, not there to pressure people into writing some kind of a length. Even without that it is prone to elitism.
The green/red thing is described as being optional. We'd need to set those minimum/maximum goalposts via an input, we could leave it blank by default. (And just throw a number like "100" out there as an example.)
(I don't actually have a horse in this race - I don't need a word counter and wouldn't use these goalposts if they were offered - but it seems easy enough to avoid the site indicating preferential treatment by offering no default setting.)
Got something to say?
