Feedback ยท Compatibility-based Character Searches (needs discussion)

I'm sure it's already been suggested, but if not, here it is. There should be an option to search based on interest or trait compatibility. It's make finding similar characters about 20 times less tedious, than taking a random interest, searching, and then rifling through profiles to find a character that one of yours would like.

It at least seems a little tedious to me, since a search is something that is supposed to be simple, but advanced if you need it. So far, it's kinda just advanced without the simplicity.

This would add that simplicity, making it more useable for someone just looking for any kind of RP with no specific interest/trait in general since sometimes a character not liking the one or two things you pick, could be the only things you don't both agree on, thereby making them not show up. xD

It would ofcourse would be descending, from highest compatibility, to lowest, but I'm not sure how useful an ascending option, with lowest to highest compatibility, would even be with that.

The problem with this is that the compatibility has to be calculated. That might seem like an obvious thing to say , but if you think about it for a little bit, it means that if there 1000 users, in order for this to actually fully work, the site would have to make 1000^2 calculations, and then store those somewhere. If there are 10,000 users, it would have to make a whopping 10,000^2 calculations, and so on. The number of calculations grows exponentially and would result in an extremely slow search.

A way to get around this mathmatical complication is to have match making. This is like what dating sites do, where the site will intentionally do matching in the background and give you a list of 5-20 some-odd people for you to go through. This way, the site could give you diversity in matches which are good enough instead of simply being the best, and would prevent the site from having to incredibly inefficient calculations on every search.

I really like the matchmaking suggestion. I'll open it up!

Ohhh, yeah, that would end up being a bit much for performance and server load, indeed. Even something vaguely similar to it would be neat.
