Expresses an interest in play which involves some sort of... ? (needs discussion)
How about simplifying the description of interests? Obviously an interest expresses an interest and since this is a roleplay site obviously not in real activities. So why not leave this away? Two examples how I mean it, the first is the original description:
.
Anal Sex: Expresses an interest in play involving anal penetration.
Anal Sex: Every kind of anal penetration.
.
Bondage: Expresses a play which involves some sort of Bondage to restrict a characters movement.
Bondage: Restricting a characters movement by bondage like ropes, shackles, handcuffs or others.

It's mostly there to railroad people into a consistent description and to make non-interest interest suggestions obvious. When you have all of the community suggesting things, I think it is important to have some kind of standard in writing them to keep at least a vague idea of consistency.
I would also like to move to a format of focusing on just describing the thing. The "expresses an interest" boilerplate can be part of the system that gestures to an informative description of what the thing is, set by us.
The problem becomes bigger in canons, where instead of actually describing and clarifying the canon or teaching people unfamiliar with it what it is, they just say something like "A setting in the {canon title} universe."
If you want to play in a canon universe with me I expect you to know the universe. If you know Star Wars only from the description of the interest this will probably not work very well.
Sure, of course people should understand the universe. However, we have the opportunity to provide something of an introduction into it, help people understand the basics (which might help them understand things inside that canon), which might help them decide if they're interested in going off and doing their own research and, maybe, joining it when they're ready.
The same kind of potential for further elaboration on what the thing is or what it's about is why I brought up canons, though it might be going off topic to focus on those too heavily.
For stuff like anal sex there won't be much to say, and I don't expect we'll need to teach people the basics. For stuff like bondage, there's a lot that can be said about the things involved, the kinds of bondage, so that people who know a lot about the thing can convey some of the basics to people who might not know about all of it. There can still be a summary, but we can go into more detail if we're not bound to one-sentence boilerplate.
Actually I realise I'm probably going off topic from what the suggestion's about so I'm going to open a different feedback item about that. I apologise for mixing up the point.
There is no requirement that I've consciously enforced interests descriptions to just be one sentence. I've often suggested more simple and straight-forward suggestions when people suggest very wordy descriptions, but the main thing I'm looking for is something starting with expresses an interest in.
Some descriptions need examples and others don't. I don't think we need examples for "blackmail" while the description of "demihuman" could use more examples.I can look for blackmail at Wiki but not for "demihuman".
Got something to say?
