When clicking on an interest that isn't currently on your character's profile, you are given an option to Add to Profile with an ability to add it under will try, yes, mandatory, and no. I have just discovered that using this method to add an interest under mandatory results in the interest actually being generated under core. This occurs regardless of whether or not the user elects to add context to the interest upon adding it.
Another related (but technically separate) issue is that there is no option to add an interest to core using this method.

John: down the bottom of the home page you can see the recently added profile options and the lists of them. If you click one of those and give the page a few seconds there's an add to profile option. That thing's a little bugged, because the Core list used to be called Mandatory. We had no Core list. It got renamed and a new Mandatory list was created.
