As someone with a fox character:
I can see this being useful for technical accuracy. Or maybe if someone has a special things for foxes specifically! (Which whould be flattering.)
In practice though I don't think foxes are all that important to distinguish from other canines. For most purposes they're about the same thing, except for the exquisite and most beautiful call foxes uniquely have, and the no pack thing. It's probably more useful to include them with the enormous diversity of canine-type things.
While Foxes are part of canidae, there's really too much a of a variety and differentiation to go "well foxes are just different types of dogs and don't need their own category" it's just really impractical and racist/speciesist to some degree. Not to mention that we are getting more fox characters on litphoria, so t helps that they have their own category trait.
Well they are just different kinds of canines/canidae. (Don't really care about the technical inaccuracy there; it's a useful inaccuracy.) We're not talking dogs; the category's canine. When the canine spectrum spans out to wolves and pugs and french poodles and bulldogs and corgis, the differences foxes have become not very outstanding.
Aaaaaaand I just realised I misread the "while" in your post as "well" instead and that changes the whole meaning. I'm great at reading, let me show you! Anyway: are there useful divisions to make other than canine that you can imagine?
Actually, having a more useful division for the topic does help this feedback. There's different genus in the family of Canidae; Canis and Vulpes. Canis contains wolves, domestic dogs, coyotes, and jackals while Vulpes is basically foxes.
So changing the name Canine to something more diverse and having the category [if possible] Vulpini for "true foxes" or dogs that aren't within the genus of canis seems more doable here.
Got something to say?
