I believe this is covered by demihuman
I suggested this because of a now-wiped out conversation in ear type (litphoria.com) which suggested it was there for identifying elves. (I think adding a whole new trait to specify ears is a poor way to identify elves.)
Like how we have goblinoid (litphoria.com) and other things, I don't think it's helpful to leave such a distinguished race under a generic "demihuman" label. Some people really like elves a whole lot. Or hate them.
I'm not sure what argument you're referring to, Jerah, especially considering cats, dogs, and bovids all have different species entries. Mind being more specific?
You linked to delete bovid, but it and its proposed alternatives (bovine, caprid, antelope), are all currently awaiting endorsement. Goblinoid, formerly also relegated to the demihuman bucket, already got endorsed.
You are mistaken in thinking the universal answer is "too bad for you". These things get accepted or declined case by case based on their individual merits.
In this case, the merits are that elves are one of the most proliferous races around in the big ol' "demihuman" bin, and people have specific preferences regarding them, so we should probably have an Elf option present.
Demi-human is a fine way for me to find all demihumans.
That's more or less exactly the problem. "All demihumans" is a really, really big broad category of many kinds of folk lore and fantasy figures whose only connection is their general stature. It's a bit like having a "quadruped" species option, or maybe "animal" or something - instead we have options for all the quadrupeds because we have a furry community that cares about the differences.
Species is not the correct place to indicate what culture a person might be a part of either, which is one of the biggest, if not only real differences between human/oids and elves.
Elves aren't a culture, and this is glaringly ignoring a whole lot of fantasy stories and staple lore around elves.
People might. I have yet to meet one. More personally, I do not.
Leaving this 'til last: Hi! I have preferences about elves that are different to those about orcs, similar to how some people have preferences to dogs that are different to cats. Now you've met someone. You might've met plenty of others, except they never brought it up. You don't? Ok then, I don't have preferences regarding dogs or cats or most other quadrupeds, myself.
I'm not asking the list to expand exponentially. I'm asking for an Elf option. Others might follow, I don't imagine there's more than a dozen, or at least not more than the kinds of animals we have right now. (Can we please leave hyperbole aside? I've had enough of that here recently.) If there's a big problem with not being able to search by more sweeping varieties, that suggests an alias system might be useful.
So it looks like the character raising objection to this got deleted and their comments went away... can we have this one? Is this needs discussion or something else?
I'm all for having a few more standard "demihuman" races. It's concerning to me that furry characters get arbitrarily many species, but the variety of human-like characters only really have one option.

I have the same problems I did in january, it seems like this is covered by demihuman
. I'm not quite sure how fine-tuned I want that field to get.
It is covered by demihuman. It is a very fine tuned field, but only for animals.
Here's the issue: imagine if the situation was reversed. In a parallel universe, there's 15 demihuman-ish species. Also, there's "Animal". When someone suggests "feline" or "canine" there's a response that it's already covered by animal. Naturally the people into animals see the value in expressing different animal types and are dismayed they don't get to distinguish animal preferences and their animal type searchably.
That isn't our universe, we're on the other side. This site came from one that already saw the value in distinguishing animal species. Demihuman types losing out rubs me the wrong way and seems arbitrary.
I'll listen if there's issues with Elf specifically but the general principle of "all demihumans are covered by the one trait" doesn't work very well for me.
The current set up leads to there being tons of options for furries and one option for non furries. Elves and orcs for example should not be under the same "demihuman" category.
Also. I support adding an "Elf" option.
