Feedback ยท Read/unread indicator for PMs and RPs, mark as unread (accepted)

I check this site regularly. Sometimes I'll get a PM, or a new post in a roleplay that will mean it's my turn to reply. Sometimes that'll happen when I can't actually reply to either - but I'll still visit to read it.

That, however, wipes out the notification and anything that would bug me "you still have a reply to make!".

Could we have something like a Read/Unread status for PMs and for roleplays, with Unread getting special attention-grabbing emphasis, and the option to mark things as Unread to reply later? (Beside the fact that new messages should automatically mark them as Unread.) Or something like a "to read" flag, anyway.

I'm not sure it would follow logically to mark something as unread to remind yourself to reply to it later. Make a "follow up" like in some e-mail clients?

When I read an email and can't read it thoroughly or can't respond to it, I mark it as unread again so that it'll still be there highlighted for me to check back later.

More or less I just want a thing that does this:

  • Tells me when there's a new message I haven't read yet, to draw my attention. (Consider I might've deleted my notifications, or I wiped one out by double-clicking it or an internet failure - this is not uncommon for me - and now I'm not sure which one it was.)
  • Lets me set a flag to draw my attention back to it again later, even if nothing else has changed.

As a use case for this: there is an individual who kept getting silence from me since December, because they'd send me PMs in the early AM, I'd read them, then I'd get ready for work and totally forget I recieved a PM from them at all. They felt dejected. I just have ADD, forget things like this easily, and need a reminder system.

I don't disagree this would be useful, just wondering if other people would follow the same thought process as you did with "unread" to mean "reply to this".

That's a good question! I'd be interested to see what others would do, but I'd also be equally happy if it was more like a "Read me" or "Check me", and I could set it manually, and it got set automatically when a new message arrived. I don't need it to be an "Unread" status specifically. :)

Taken a step further - maybe there could be an option that automates it, usable in roleplays too (but probably not chats). Where if everyone else in chat replies, it's still urgent in your inbox.

In roleplays, maybe it could be enabled with "In Progress" and disabled with "Finished" too, somehow. It might make those things more useful & used by people too. Not sure exactly, throwing out thoughts, hahah.
