It sounds like you mean this: when you check your character list, there's a character you're expecting to see there who isn't there. (Like as if Samus wasn't on my list.) Also, when you check the site's list of profiles you find another character by the same name.
Is that what you're referring to? (The good news is names aren't unique here - you could make a character called Samus as well.)

Have you experienced any other profiles going missing? I don't know if there's much here in the way of a bug we can fix right now with this information, it sounds like you could've forgotten to actually create that profile.
Names are not unique here, so it's entirely possible someone had coincidentally already set up a character by that name --- but that doesn't stop you from also creating your character with that name. Go ahead and create them. The site can have thousands of characters all called Lich, thousands called Samus, etc.
