Feedback ยท I can fall out of the whitelist after I've spoken in an invite-only chat (solved)

I found out I'd mysteriously disappeared from the whitelist of a chat earlier today. There's no actual mechanisms available to remove anyone from a whitelist right now, so it wasn't deliberate.

Here's what happened:

  • When Fantasy Tavern (channel #24300) became an invite only chat, my characters Korra and Quelaag, who had never spoken there before, got a whitelist invitation each (with the "Korra was added to a roleplay" notification and everything).
  • I continued to have no activity in that room as either character until recently.
  • A couple of days ago, I sent a couple of messages as Korra. They were my first and only messages as her in the channel. I sent no more over the next few days.
  • Today I discovered Korra is no longer on the channel's whitelist.
  • Quelaag however is still whitelisted. Coincidentally, she's never spoken at all in there yet.
  • It's definitely still the same room (#24300).

I speculate I get removed from the whitelist if I'd otherwise be removed from the "characters in this room" list due to my most recent message falling out of the backlog.

Given this and the feedback about a lack of whitelist control it seems like the whitelist is tied up with the list of characters present in a problematic way, as in I'd bet they are the same list, when it should be a different list altogether.

Korra

I've since been placed back on the room whitelist.

Korra

From a room owner POV, I would expect something like this:

  • There's a list of people who have spoken in the room recently.
  • There's a whitelist. This is totally unrelated to whoever's spoken recently. This means when I flip the room to "invite only" for the first time, probably nobody will be on the whitelist until I add them. Likewise, the people on the whitelist don't show up on the list of people in that room until they actually start speaking in there.
  • If/when blacklists are a thing, naturally that'll be a third list. Naturally it will have no overlap with the other two. People can't be on both the whitelist and the blacklist. Blacklisting someone could remove someone from the first list.
