Feedback · Ping Words (in review)

I'd like to be able to pick words--the name of my profile, a keyword relevant to my interests, or the name of my friends. When one of these words comes up (including when one of the friends says anything) in a channel I'm connected to, I'd get a ding and toast even if other toasts were turned off.

Ncknames too. I'd call these ping words, but tomato/tomato.

Samus

I'd also want the message highlighted somehow.

Highlighting the message would be nice.

Yes please

Probably would not call these "stalk words"

Quenthell

Agree, "ping words?" the idea is getting across though

Quenthell

So to recap we want

  • A method to list a few words (Character name, nicknames)
  • We want these words, when mentioned to send a audio "ping"
  • We want these words, when mentioned to send a toast
  • We want these words, when mentioned to highlight the post in which they are mentioned in the chat.
  • We want the settings for turning on/off these pings to be separate from the existing ping/toast settings so that we can turn the 'regular' pings off and only receive 'mention' pings.

Renamed this to "ping words" from "stalk words" since it communicates the intent much better

Hello ^^

So, I guess this just solves half the issue. I knew nothing about javascript when I took upon trying to solve this feature. Took me the whole day to learn actually! Now, it isn't the best solution either. It works only for chrome. It's an extension and not a published one, which means you'll have to put up with a dumb notification every time you start your browser if you wanna use it. Oh and, I don't take any responsibility if you do use it! Not that it should crash your computer or anything..

Anywho! It works a little like this. You go to: https://mega.nz/#F!HZIw1TZT!sUfSurchF7yhrfpW8lwRXw to download the folder. This folder contains the source code, if you wish to make sure there isn't anything bad about it~ But if you trust a complete stranger. Well then, leeet's continue!

Simply copy chrome:extensions into the URL field. Once on the page, drag and drop the whole folder into (named PingWords) onto the web page, and it's installed! Now, to set the words you wish to be pinged. Look up in the upper right corner of your browser. You'll see a P in a gray little box. Press this and then on Options. If you've made it this far, you'll be happy to know that you're finished. Well, almost. But the rest, you gotta figure out yourself~
