Split roleplays/chats to show ic and ooc on different sides. (accepted)
Right now, there is a problem with ic and ooc chatter being in the same spot, with not much of a visual cue that one is different from the other. Channels will have roleplay and casual conversation going on at the same time.
People don't like to roleplay when they're interrupting a conversation and people don't want to interrupt a roleplay to start a conversation.
Giving the option to split the window--creating two chats, with ic on the left, ooc on the right--would handidly solve these problems and open up a lot of stuff. OOC comments in long roleplays wouldn't look so out of place and wouldn't disrupt the flow when readers are going through it. Later options that could restrict who can post into IC would make it possible for a live viewing audience for an ongoing roleplay.
And it'd be really cool.

Maybe a subdued colour for your unmarked type, and the normal colour for the standard type? Possibly coupled with smaller typeface for the unmarked chat mode?
What's standard and unmarked type?
Unmarked as in, the mode you're not using. Standard as in bog-vanilla appearance.
So you mean if I'm tabbed over to talking in OOC, the format of IC changes to be duller and possibly smaller?
That's what I'd think, yeah.
Rather, what makes intuitive sense to me.
I agree fully with the sentiment that ic/OOC needs better demarcation , but not sure I agree on the method. My concern is that I personally wouldn't want the window flashing and notifying me of every OOC comment made in the middle of an active rp, or vice versa. I'd also rather not even see it sometimes, if there's a big OOC discussion going on and I'm trying to focus on a scene or vice versa so hope IC/ OOC chat filtering makes a return.
I've seen some rooms handle this by making two separate rooms, one IC only and the other OOC only and I'm somewhat fond of how that had worked. In that situation you can adjust your screen to put two windows side by side if you sor desire. My biggest concerns are if you mix them in one window how it will look (cluttered and busy) and how this would translate into smaller screens such as cell phones.
I agree with this. Or at least; similar to how reading mode is a different view on the chat - we can have IC and OOC modes? Maybe that's too encumbersome, and too clunky for users to take advantage of. Just an idea - I'd really like it if people could RP in a chat and not have tons of OOC posts splitting it up; while it may not bother other people at all, it makes me feel bad to post OOC things while others are IC RPing in chat.
Love the idea of a side panel of OOC to keep it separate from RP. Currently prefer to use a PM chat on another tab rather than putting OOC chat into the RP.
Got something to say?
