Not sure how deleting posts currently works exactly, but I believe edit mode is still necessary to delete posts without showing up this post has been deleted messages.
I checked on the testing server, messages deleted during edit mode still show that message.

Yeah, now that you mention it, this is a relatively new thing.

There used to be some logic about when posts would still show up as "deleted" or just not at all. This logic was not entirely intuitive, as it factored in a lot of things, such as if the post was OOC or not, if there was another post made after it, if the RP was in edit mode, some other things. With the RP update, that went away, just replaced with deletes always resulting in nothing, at first, then the "this message has been deleted" later.
