In the new profiles, can the column of our own traits be removed? (in review)
Profiles are getting redesigned so this is a good time to ask this.
When I view another profile, their trait area has two columns: on the left, their traits. On the right, my character's. The thing that burns on my mind about this is we don't actually need to see our own traits — I usually know what they are, I set them myself, except for the occasion I've forgotten something and would like to check it to jog my mind. Meanwhile, if that column wasn't used for our own traits, it could be used for something else — like displaying their traits in two columns to make the section less tall.
In the next version of profiles, could we not show our own traits in a whole column? Instead, let's show the trait/preferences matchup like this:
- I see their trait matchup like usual.
- To the right of it, I just see some tiny symbol and/or word saying how they feel about my character's trait (rather than telling me it again verbosely): ❤ Yours; — No pref; something like that.
- I mouseover that "❤ Yours" or whatever, and it tells me what's going on in a tooltip: "Your character has Age: Adult. ❤ This person likes that." Now I understand the message, and I get a memory-jog of what I set my trait to if I need it.
That's tiny enough it can just sit inside the column on the left. Now the whole right hand column is freed up, and we can use it for something like a two-column display of their traits.

The intended purpose of this was to show you how their preferences related to your profile, not to remind you of what your profile was filled out with (though this might have that marginal benefit for people with like 30 profiles). The redesign may have the comparison on a separate tab entirely, though.
Yeah, that's why I suggest the "❤ Yours" thing that can just be tucked off to the right inside the column containing their information. That tells you how it relates to your profile, without repeating your traits back to you, and uses a small amount of space.
Here's a mockup I did using Korra's (NSFW, sexual) traits in MSPaint: i.imgur.com
Things not in this mockup that should probably happen:
- There's no colors 'cause this wasn't a legit comparison 'cause it was my own profile. The they like your thing could be a good color, the they dislike your thing a bad color, the no preference could be a neutral color.
- I didn't set up a "neutral preference" display either. There'd be one. But this is a mockup and I'm lazy.
- There should be something that definitively connects the left to the right. Don't you hate it when you've got, like, a sheet with two columns, but they're really far apart and it's hard to tell which line on the right connects to which line on the left? I have to use a ruler for these. In this thing, we could do alternating backgrounds, or a thin dotted line going from left to right to connect the two values that share a line.
Yessss, that mockup looks good.
