Bottle Game/Mechanic to randomly select someone in room. (in review)
I feel like this would be a useful feature to have in chatrooms and would increase room activity and give them something to do along with having rooms spring up dedicated to this effect. After all who doesn't like a good spin the bottle or Truth or Dare game among friends?

Could be good, though I'd want someone in the chat to have a way to flag themselves as interested in having the bottle spin towards them, rather than the bottle just spinning and potentially landing on anyone in a chat.
Get the feeling any neat things that come from this sort of feature would just be outweighed by people spamming it when bored. Griz's idea is a good one because then it only gets used when people have signed up for it for some reason.
It depends how exactly we intend for this to operate.
Will it operate on everyone connected to the chat or everyone who has posted in the channel? The former is more difficult than the latter, due to the RP system being largely separate from the live update system.
Do we need an entirely new status thing just to support this, like griz outlined? Could it use something like LFRP instead?
I don't think bottle-spinning should be a way of uncovering lurkers, which is what it hitting people who have connected but not posted sounds like. And LFRP seems like a decent proxy for 'interested in bottle stuff', really!
I guess posted in the channel would be the guys who are active right?
And if it works I wouldn't mind for people to be able to opt-out of bottle spins and such.
Implementing a bottle feature might ensure I stay here for good since I'm still trying this place out. The fact that it doesn't have one doesn't make me keen on using this place as an RP platform because I use this feature a LOT.
We already have dice rolling, which gives you the random functionality you'd need to do this for yourself. This would just be a minor skin on top of that, basically.
I do like the idea of a bottle spin feature. Because it's a feature that you can't do with the dice roll. BASICALLY using the bottle picks someone that is random. Can you do that with a dice? nope, absolutely not. A dice roll can only go so far if you're trying to play a fun game.
You can absolutely do it with a dice roll. Just roll a 1d(number of people in the room). If you get 2, then pick the 2nd person in the channel list, if you get 1, then pick the first, etc. This is exactly what a bottle feature would do.
Are you completely ignoring your own post earlier in this very feedback or something? That is absolutely NOT the same thing as a dice roll but because you suddenly come up with an "alternative" where we have to "do it ourselves", which is not exactly what I would call friendly and welcoming, might as well pack up and not listen to your userbase. Shame on you.
the way the bottle worked on f-list, it picks people that are in the room that are online and have their looking light on. It doesn't pick those who are on busy, away, or dnd, unless there is a mild rare occurrence (which tends to be a glitch). It is done by random and never picks anyone who may not be in the room or had left. Doing it by dice roll means you have to pick someone manually, regardless what you rolled, and that's a hassle in of itself and takes the fun out of it.
I thought the point of the dice roll is for Pathfinder type games.
I would agree it's more of a hassle, for sure. To say that it's impossible to do, though, and that everyone here has been ignored, is just simply too far. That's why this feedback is still open (and not rejected or closed as a duplicate, or whatever).
I dont say a bottle spin feature would be impossible, afterall, the robutt bott on f-list actually did a better improvement with it than what f-list could've done. Its a lot of coding to make sure it picks random people, but makes sure not to pick those who have opted not to be involved with it whether by their status or they make a command of /nobottlepick or something.
And it could be a lot better than using dice roll to pick a random person, and have to use it again and again to pick someone who actually wants to be involved.
Also, it would be nice to have a feature customised for bottle spinning, because, if it's possible, I personally would like to request that it doesn't pick the same person twice in a row. As in, if it's possible to code-out repeat rolls, it would have its own unique property that would warrant its implementation, and besides, nobody wants to be spun on for pretty much any bottle spinning game twice in a row. Or it can be a setting that can be turned off. /nobottlerepeat
Certainly a feature on it like not picking the same person twice would be different from emulating it via dice. That adds other points to discuss, though, like, in what time frame? Consider that our messages here are persistent, so an inactive channel could potentially have the same bottle result in its message backlog for a while (a day or longer).
The point of "who wants to be involved" was already discussed above and we seemed to land on the idea of using our LFRP system as a proxy.
I don't see anything wrong with 24 hours being a good time frame like in your example. Feels like plenty of time, though if it needs to be less, I don't think there will be complaint.
I still think this feature would not benefit the site at all. There's not enough people active in public chats to make selecting someone at random worthwhile, and all I've seen people use this for is to spin at random when they're bored. I for one don't want to see users actively encouraged by site features to do more yawns and stretchesing.
^For people like that, add a mod setting that can turn the bottle on or off. Problem solved, now let people have fun.
