Feedback ยท Profile variants (accepted)

Something that would be nice to have: profile variants.

For example, let's say I have a character, Chihiro. She's a teenage magical heroine who fights for love and justice. I have a default, standard version that I bring up everywhere, but I also have a few different versions that I'd like to bring out in certain instances.

  • Maybe I have a giant robot pilot variant. Same basic character as the standard variant, but different context that requires different trait options.
  • Maybe I have a darkest timeline variant. This has very similar trait options to the standard, but a very different Description text.
  • Maybe I have a Mushroom Kingdom variant. This has several different trait options and a quite different Description text, but it's still recognizably the same character.
  • Finally, I might have a really smutty version of the original profile to bring to adult rooms. This would have more explicit traits, interests, & themes filled in while the primary version stays my default.

I'd like to be able to keep all these profiles together by associating them as variants of one root profile [one-to-many] (or variants of each other [many-to-many], whatever is easier on WA). Each profile should list its associated variants.

I don't much care whether each variant counts toward the profile limit or not.

It would be extra nice to differentiate between them in chats & RPs. This is easily done with the fanfiction standardized format of an exclamation mark AU tag in the name. Example:

dark!Chihiro: I will destroy everything that's not my friend!

I'd like this. :) Thinking about it, I've had a profile I would portray one of two (drastically) different ways, and ended up creating a second profile by the same name for the second version.

I think variants should for the most part inherit the "default" profile's traits (and preferences?) except where you deliberately set something else for it or choose not to display that trait at all. By "inherited", I mean when you update that trait on the default profile, it updates the same way for every variant. Maybe something similar should be set up for interests? Contexts, I think, would often be something we'd want to not inherit and instead set our own.

this is pretty much what was suggested here, but only for having a smut variant. Having multiple variants for AU play, or versions does seem interesting.

My main question is how strong is this variant relationship? Is this basically just a one-time profile copy with a link back to the original profile, or are we imaging as you make updates to the original they'll populate in the variant profiles?

Pinkie Pie

I can't imagine that syncing variants to their original like that would be critical. The links in between profiles, switching between variants, and the ! label for the variant title are the salient features.

Honestly. having a variant profile would be more for having a sexual or adult content based counterpart, so that those of us who wish to play a character without having to make another profile for general RP would have less hassle. Anything for like alternate universe, while an interesting idea..... not as necessary as having the possibility of an alternate profile for mature content.

Korra

I'm with Pinkie on the syncing not being vital. I agree this could be kinda necessary for handling content divides, but I also think this'll be pretty great for portraying alternate versions of characters who are substantially different.
