All images get converted to JPGs, so there's no support for uploading animated GIFs yet.

Right now the site doesn't support gifs/webms/etc by design. Images are the lion's share of all bandwidth use on the site, and animated images would be even more costly. That said, it could be worth pursuing if it's something the community really wants.
For the four allowed hosted images, the impact would only be felt if someone opens up one of the images, rather than when viewing the profile itself. This might be a small increase, but it's also not a critical feature, IMO (because people aren't spending a huge amount of time opening images for full size viewing).
It would be nice to add at least Lit-hosted jpegs to the text sections, even if the quantity permitted is limited. Describing the looks of a character can be accompanied by a photo or drawing, fore example. In this case, it might just be a full or thumbnail display of one of the uploaded images that is permitted in the Traits description box. That ends up limiting the pictures shown since there would be a max of 4 unique images, but the result would be more bandwidth used since the image is coming from the Lit server. Surely the text can be parsed and the number of images linked could be limited if there is a worry of excessiveness (aesthetic concern), but if the images are externally hosted on imgur or sli.mg, then bandwidth usage for Lit wouldn't be an issue, right?
Personally, I'm NOT a fan of the current controlled, minimalist aesthetic of Litphoria. I'd like to see the ability to craft a profile page at least a little more, with externally-hosted jpgs and gifs being shown in description boxes of profiles AND RPs. Inlining in RP and chats would also be nice, though making it an option that might be off by default is fine. Let the RP owner set whether it is permitted.
While I am personally opposed to using pictures to describe settings/characters, I am almost always pro-flexibility. I always thought it was odd that the site doesn't let you include images anywhere outside the four profile pics.
I don't really see gifs as bringing much to the table for the site and whatnot, considering the intent is to bring a minimalist sort of vibe in the environment. If it's going to be in the site, maybe have it as a feature that can be toggled on and off. Beyond that, eeeh.
Got something to say?
Why don't you register and participate?
Litphoria has a unique community feedback system, where the community decides what profile options are available, and what order new features are developed.
