I would like to have the definition of an interest, trait or category to pop up if you hover over it to make it easier to understand ones that I am unfamiliar with directly from a profile.

Hover-Over Tooltips on all traits, etc.
Provide a description for an interest you're looking at whilst adding interests.

I was just thinking about this.
It seems like there's a lot of confusion about trait usage, specifically gender ones and how to search them.

Well, there's a lot of confusion about gender in general. I'm not sure this will help that much though.
That's a really big issue but at least knowing how to use specific traits effectively for search will help those who know what they're doing. I have a feeling people don't go into nation and look at the definitions from there.
Accidentally duplicated this. The only thing I would add is that I'd prefer the tooltip to include a quick-add button, in the event you want to quickly add an element/canon/interest/etc. to your own profile without leaving the page you're currently browsing.
I want this. I'm glad it was accepted. I assume this would be the same materially as the tool-tip pop-up on the custom kinks on another well-known site. For me it is a ease of use thing. Even though I can expand all, for example, in reality I just want to see tool-tips pop up because the expanded mode is harder to pick through, and I only care about specific ones, and expanding specific ones is a pain and slower. (Yes, seems minor and picky, but I love that other site for using this method.)
