Change the names of some species categories. (implemented)
A few of the species category names are unintuitive and/or wrongly descriptive.
Cat could be changed to feline or felid. Dog could be changed to canine or canid. Horse could be changed to equine or equid. Rat could be changed to rodent. Monkey could be changed to primate.
I believe that the names these categories have now aren't representative of the numerous non-domestic dog/cat, equines, rodents, or primates that are meant to go under them. It's been mentioned elsewhere that this can discourage people from choosing a species at all, considering theirs not included in the list, which I have to agree with (I'm not going to list a chimp under 'monkey 'myself).
And I think those are the only categories that need it (ursidae are all bears and chiroptera are all bats, after all). But I may be wrong.

The main problem with doing this (and why they are named what they are) is searching. I have difficulty believing people are going to type in:
find chiroptera profiles
when they really want to type
find bat profiles
.
I should also note that search aliases for categories would solve this issue, allowing us to have the technical name while the short name for searching.
With the search aliases, we can rename all of them to the scientific/latin names then for people who wish they can then use either name to search by.
Got something to say?
