As opposed to an entirely different chat system, I'd like to propose an integrated chat system with the current systems on show.
I would like to be able to create a chat channel, which would be a specialized kind of play. It would have almost all of the options of current plays, such as being able to add interests, only the posts to it would only last for 24 hours. Notifications will also not be generated for this play, so no e-mail on on-site indications that there's been new messages.

There might be some additional options, such as being presented slightly differently on the UI, and auto-connecting when viewed, though those may also be suited as account-wide toggles.
I actually really like this idea....I'd like to see something like this!
My main issue with chat on other sites is how entirely different it is from the rest of the site. This would be an integrated system which leverages the current functionality that already exists and encourages use of them (like tagging plays with interests), but just tweaks existing functionality to be better suited to people who strongly prefer a more casual chat environment.
Which is why I think this is an especially great idea. I'm hoping it will feel like interest specific channels that are a bit more fast paced instead of just a "chatroom" set off to the side of everything else...which feels kind of awkward.
The UI might need tweaking a bit and some roleplay options don't make... too much sense? with a chat channel, but this is now live. Go into your play's settings and check it to be a chat channel to enable, only keeps the last 100 messages.
Got something to say?
