Not necessarily. This character for instance is into sexual pain, dominant/switch, top/bottom-switch and a masochist. There's absolutely no way you'd be able to infer the masochism from the first three. The assumption works only if you're talking about traditional/formal BDSM, and falls apart otherwise.

Jaime, you would be able to infer in most cases, and in cases where you can't, the give/receive + an interest would allow you to tell without error. Regardless of D/s or top/bottom, if you have "pain" as giving, it's clear you're a sadist, and if you have it as receiving, it's clear your a masochist.

Pain would be a better word for use I think. Pain (Receive, Give, Both) would mean you like giving or receiving pain. That would cover all instances of sadomasochism one can think of, which is different then Torture, which would be mostly to cause someone to be in distress either physically or mentally. I'm a feline, and I like my barbs, so I'm entitled to enjoy causing some level of Pain, doesn't mean I'm into S/M though!
