Feedback ยท Profile templates for faster character creation, especially with respect to RP systems/universes/genres (closed)

related to Profile Inspirations (templating)

It seems to be a lot of work and not a little confusion for a new user to Litphoria to get a new character profile into a usable state. It is easier on some other sites because they either don't offer many options at all (at least none that are searchable), or the focus is tighter than Litphoria's ambition.

A solution might be Profile Templates. These might be created by means of starting a regular profile and then exporting or saving as a template which would put it into a site database of templates. At time of saving, other fields related to the templating system might be filled in, such as possibly RP Universe , Genre , RP System , and other search terms or classifications. Thus a person might start with a profile already mostly created, more quickly completed, and suitable for Housewife , Stormtrooper , BDSM-Submissive , and so on.

I am combating this with a much better tutorial system and a reworked profile creation workflow (here). The idea being instead of starting with a name and concept, you just start with the character's concept, then clicking on things relevant to that profile. You don't worry about the context/value for interests or traits, you just click buttons like "gender: female" until you slowly build up a shape for your character.

There will also probably be buttons for interests, but instead of presenting you with four lists, you only pick stuff you do and don't like. All of the finer details would be added in after you've already got this shape of the profile in.

Of course, part of the reason it seems like a lot of work is you can put a lot more detail into litphoria's systems than competitors. Every single interest can have descriptions around it, for example. That's a lot of stuff to put in! That's why I think the phased profile creation steps, where you focus on the big stuff (what does this character like, what does it not, what is its gender, etc.) then the little stuff is ideal.

But I don't really think templates are in the site's best interest? We're not really looking for BDSM-Submissive #2439 or Disgruntled House Wife Looking For Dick #4449.

However, after giving this idea five minutes, there might be something else that this can be used for.

Imagine, instead of templates which create a profile for you with a bunch of stuff filled out, you picked specific inspirations (name not final, oh god the jargon is multiplying) during profile creation (maybe afterwards?).

As an example, imagine there's an inspiration for "Submissive in the BSDM sense". If you click this, you would automatically get bondage under yes, bdsm under yes, d/s role of submissive, bottom/top role of bottom, and preferences for both for dominant characters, while dispreferences for submissive ones. You could have multiple inspirations working together to quickly get a very rough idea of the profile, then add in the missing pieces by the creation steps I outlined earlier, then finally cement in the final details with roleplaying ads and contexts for everything. This would create a very interesting and unique workflow for creating profiles.

The important difference here I think between this interpretation and yours is that

  1. it doesn't create the profile and
  2. inspirations are very specific and only affect a few traits or interests at a time, to encourage mixing and matching.

This way, it works with the current systems I plan to implement. This would also give something else for users to create, suggest, and share.

Well, no not templates that refined, but your ideas are great, and answer my concern. -smiles-

P.S. I do think profile creation may be retarding up-take, but that is my newbie, not-qualified, 2-cent assessment.

I'm liking my idea of inspirations so much, I'm allowing this to be endorsed with the concession that the inspirations will be implemented, not templating.

smiles It helps accomplish the goal, I think, of the original suggestion.

Creation now after the new profile creator is quite painless. It's only a few clicks.
