Hey all!
I'm excited to announce that the PM to RP redesign is complete. What does this mean for you?
All private messages are a type of roleplay
This implication might seem subtle or just an implementation detail at first until some of the finer points hit you. By it being a kind of roleplay, you get everything roleplays get by default, and any future stuff that roleplays will get, such as:
- downloading
- live-updating
- ooc/ic posting
- leaving
This also allows for a very interesting concept: promoting a private conversation to a roleplay. After you've chatted up with someone (and maybe even had a post or two IC!) you can promote the conversation to a full roleplay. This preserves everything you said and lets you retroactively turn a conversation you had with someone into a more structured roleplay, complete with an ad to attract more users, and interests stuck on it to better classify it.
Because, let's face it, not everyone plans these things out! :)
What about my existing PMs in my inbox?
All of the older inbox-based PMs will be deleted one week from now, on February 22nd, 2015.
Please backup/save any private messages you wish to save, as they will be deleted permanently. I will also simplify the inbox pretty drastically on that date. You can no longer create private messages from the inbox, you must visit someone's profile and 'message'.
Other bits and pieces
-
Because of the fairly large privacy concerns with roleplay promoting, I have disabled the ability for someone to make a private roleplay public unless they're the only person in that roleplay. This will be enabled later with everyone in the play agreeing to promote it, but not now.
-
I have also made it so notifications take you directly to the thing they're notifying you about and delete themselves as you do. This is mostly a quality-of-life thing and doesn't have any impact on the site.

Private conversations are a kind of chat roleplay. This means only the last 100 messages with a user are saved. These do not have the usual limitation where you can only view posts from less than 24 hours ago, though.
That's all for now!
