Posted for reasons discussed in Neutral. I believe the implications of this name offer more utility for our site than the D&D alignment: neutral sounds like a conscious choice, and unlike 'none'. Unaligned can also double as none, and allows for people who are simply on this position due to no choice yet.
Why can't we add a Law-Chaos/Evil-Good scale like RPGs do? Three options for each. Law, Neutral, Chaos, and then Good, Neutral, and Evil. In the end we'd have 9 options that are MUCH better alignments than just two.
Mainly because the problem alignment debates stem from? The D&D two-axis alignment system breaks down into ambiguity and becomes useless in moderately complex circumstances, which is what this site is going to explore at length. It's a massively problematic system and I'm glad we don't have it here. Works well for justifying entering a dungeon, slaughtering everything in site and taking its loot. Doesn't work so well for complex narratives.
Discussion on the original alignment tag went toward, well, let's just import the alignments that actually get frequently used in general literature, which are good and evil and whatever people caught in the middle are.
Yes, this is about the name itself. I'll go humbly with the choice the community makes, I just want to provide a means for the community to make a choice. I have my preference but I may not be right.
Got something to say?
