Feedback ยท Drop lowest/highest dice functions. (accepted)

Using litphoria for roleplaying with systems is surprisingly good. It could be a bit better if the dice function list was slightly updated to include some of the common mechanics. Two of the common ones are dropping the lowest or highest of some dicerolls, especially with the dungeons and dragons system.

For this notation, I suggest using "dl" for dropping low dice, and "dh" for dropping high dice.

So for instance, "2d20dl1+5" would roll two d20, drop the lowest roll, then add the remaining roll plus 5 for the final result. "5d20dh3+10" would roll five dice, add together the lowest two, then add 10 to the result.

So high tech! For shorthand, do you think "dl" and "dh" should implicitly have a 1 after them if nothing's specified? So for an attack roll with advantage in D&D 5e I'd write:

2d20dl+5

Does this imply any change to how the result is displayed?

Going by the new chat's dice message, I'd usually do this:

Samus rolls 4d6v and gets 15! (2 + 5 + 4 + 4)

And if I'm dropping lowest, I'll think or say some version of "1 was lowest, so I'll remove that. 15 - 2 = 13, that's my result." (or "5 + 4 + 4 = 13", whichever looks like easiest mental arithmetic at the time)

With this I'd imagine it could come out something like:

Samus rolls 4d6dlv and gets 13! (5 + 4 + 4, dropped: 2)

or just:

Samus rolls 4d6dl and gets 13!

The dropped die itself is not usually important. If it is I'd use verbose mode, and might not even be using the drop command myself.

For a roll with Advantage in D&D 53 I'd just expect to say:

Samus: I'm going to attack with my hunting knife! I'm hidden so I have advantage, and this attack is at +5.

Samus rolls 2d20dl+5 and gets 21!

Samus: Awesome. Does that pass his armor?

GM: Yep. NIce one. Roll damage.

Samus: Aw yes.

(then I proceed to roll 4d6 or something.)

That syntax looks good to me.
