Feedback ยท Add a delay of two or more posts prior to triggering the creation of a new page in an RP using connected Forum mode. (solved)

This is for the benefit of seeing the two prior posts at the top of a new page (three posts in total at the top of a new page) while engaged in a connected Forum-mode RP.

In an RP in connected Forum mode, the RP page will switch to showing only the last post when it adds a new page to the page count (shows 1st post of new page). Suggestion: Use hysteresis so that it takes a couple of extra posts before the new page function is triggered, and then the new page shows the last post plus a couple more previous posts, enabling users to see at least two previous posts at the top of the page, to cut down on needing to page back and see what was posted immediately previously.

Obviously, this could work this way in all cases in Forum mode without issue, so that all code is the same for when a new page is created. So when creating pages to display all posts in an RP, lets say the posts per page is 10, and there are 22 posts. This would create 2 pages with 10 posts on first page. Going to the second page would generate a page with 12 posts. When one more post is added, the third page would then be displayed, but instead of just having the 23rd post at the top, it would now have 3 posts at the top (posts 21 through 23). Going back to page 2 would now only show 10 posts (posts 11 through 20).

Here is another feedback that says I have points dedicated to it (16). However it does not show in my list of endorsements. With 100 points officially allocated, and 11 in another non-listed feed-back, this brings by total to 127.

As a test, I endorsed this with my 100 points. It was flaky, and didn't seem to like me putting in 100 points, but after refreshing, it finally reports as having endorsed with 100, and shows that I have zero points left. However, I still have other hidden endorsements (not listed in My Feedback), that show that I have points in them.

After re-reading this, I don't know if maybe I could make it clearer. Basically, in all cases of displaying an RP in standard mode, use a simple rule:

  • Render pages with N+2 unless a following page is required, then render with N posts.

So, the last page could render up to 12 posts, where all preceding pages render with 10, if N = 10. This has the effect that when a 13th post is created, the next page always starts with three posts. This would reduce the hassle of having to go back a page to see either of the preceding two posts, since it is common to need to view what you and/or a third participant wrote previously while composing your reply.

Oh, I just saw the feedback for seeing the most recent posts, and that idea is preferable due to having all of the last twenty or so posts visible always. Seems easy to implement with current paging. Basically, for two or more pages, the first page always shows the first-twenty posts, the 2nd page always shows the 2nd-twenty, and so on. The last page always displays the last twenty posts. Sure, between the last page and the second from last page, there could be up to 19 duplicates, but I can live with that!

This is solved, because roleplays now get posted to in the form of seeing the last few dozen messages, without pagination being involved.
